Intro...

Few products and services in our market today are truly unique at the core. When a $200 pair of Oakley glasses can be reproduced, perfectly, in China within three days, you can't sell people on the value of the glasses. What you sell them on, is your image. Your positioning. You must differentiate yourself, cause chances are 99% that what you are offering is a commodity that people can get elsewhere. But you can own your niche and succeed, with your Branding & Positioning. This reality is what provides never ending opportunity in our global market place. Even more so with the fact that very few businesses ever do their homework in this area. They think they are selling their...product or service, and that is enough.

It's not.

You - must - showcase - an - image - that - people - want - to - associate - themselves - with.

If your product or service really is the best in it's field, you will still go out of business if you don't make the effort to promote yourself correctly. If you don't, the inferior company will win.

People DO judge a book by it's cover. And many of the greatest messages die in abscurity because the author thought their stellar writing and brilliance was the key. And that content got hidden behind a bad title, no tagline, and a cover that was wholly non compelling.

You should be selling more, at a higher price, with less effort. You just have to stake your claim.

Why A Consultant For Your Overall?
Business Strategy?

I am a dyed-in-the-wool marketing minded guy, always have been. It's how the Creator wired me. 'Marketing' is a broad term though, and there are many areas that are not my core competency. With any product or service, my mind hones in on 'that is compelling' OR..."that isn't - they should do X-Y-Z to differentiate themselves and make their offer more obvious and... compelling!" You have to create a specific offering that people recognize or you'll so easily get passed over. Every person's product or service is unique (it HAS to be), and there are some principles and structures used by the most successful that can be implemented for you. That's what I do.

What's the difference between all the myriad of business ideas that people try to succeed with... and the shining stars of success? The right positioning and strategy. Most people try to do it all by themselves, and there is just little chance of big success when you wear every hat in your 'business.' You often have a skewed perspective when it comes to actually offering what you have to the world. It may be clear to you, but the biggest companies spend billions of dollars trying to get into the heads and minds of their prospects. My experience is that you need an unbiased expert to help you with positioning and strategy…and to varying extents…implementation and promotion.

A great example is what Dan Miller (my father) and I did when we really began serious planning for this 212 Connection business network. We hired an outside consulting firm to the tune of $25,000 dollars to help us decide on our positioning, platform and strategy. We scrimped on some of our website design and even kept certain products and services out for the future when we could better afford them. But we knew success hung on the right planning at the beginning.

Theoretical vs Prescriptive

  • theory – a proposed explanation whose status is still conjectural, in contrast to well-established propositions that are regarded as reporting matters of actual fact.
  • prescribe - to lay down, in writing or otherwise, as a rule or a course of action to be followed; appoint, ordain, or enjoin.

My consulting for your business is P-R-E-S-C-R-I-P-T-I-V-E. Theology is only as good as the actions taken as a result thereof. I do an audit of where you are with your business or ideas, find out about who you are and where you want to go…and I start prescribing.

Positioning

– what is your brand, what is your main platform, who is your audience? You have to know this before you do another thing. I’ll help you find it.

Strategy

– How do you go about offering your product or service? With what methods and communication? What are the resources needed? I’ll help you create this.

Implementation

– You’re ready to go…who is going to put the pieces into place? Who will setup the accounts, get the services ready to be utilized? I can do it or guide you to a provider.

Promotion

– Everything is ready…how do I drive traffic to me? I’ll advise you on how to do it, and can do some for you through my own channels.
